Hats Off to DH-He Turns 50 Today!

…he stuck a feather in his cap and called it Mike-a-Roni.

Mr. is having fun doing photo-shoots with his new birthday present I got him,  a snazzy brown Fedora, and it’s like a carnival around here tonight-send in the clowns.

Mr’s handling the transition rather well, considering he’s been tossing the number 50 around for weeks now. He says it doesn’t bother him, but I think he’s in denial…he’s in a good mood, so that’s a good thing, Maynard.

I got my Keychain Sock Blocker Sock kit today, and am working on what has to be THE smallest sock in the knitting world~

*Note to Self…. smack Mr. into next week, if he doesn’t stop making porno-references to knitting videos on YouTube!!!!!! }8@

My new Knitpicks catalog came in the mail and there’s a pattern for a Christmas Pickle in it-definitely going to make one for our Tiny Tree~

Back to my Tiny Sock; will post pictures of Fun with Fedoras as soon as they are released!

“California, here I come…”

“, right back where I started from.”

I love when I remember a song from way back. No, I’m not really leaving, but a vacation would be nice. 🙂

“Leavin’ on a jet plane. Don’t know when I’ll be back again. Obabe, I hate to go…” RIP Mary Travers, Peter and Paul will surely miss you most.

I went to Sharon’s  Surprise Birthday Party Saturday, it was great! Her daughter Heather put on such a spread, and I begged for the recipes, and noticed some in my Inbox this morning-will share in another post~

Sharon LOVED her two doilies, The Sheery Witchery Glass Doily and the Spiderweb Doily:

I keep up with Linda Godfrey’s blogs, and her latest entry was very interesting! I was never a Google fan, but I added her RSS to my IGoogle, and actually like the look of the homepage~worth checking out.

I reworked my KnitPicks LumberJill Socks- the Hourglass stitch got the best of me on my worst day, and not feeling good to begin with, my patience came unraveled by the 3rd round of said 4-row pattern. So I ripped it back to the beginning of my original 2×2 rib pattern and resumed the foot. I’m about halfway up the foot now, and thinking that when I’m feeling better, say, on my next sock, I might just attempt the Hourglass stitch again. It’s not that it’s difficult or anything, just tedious with sock yarn and #2 dpns. Lessons learned.

Work to do, I’ll be back later~

Tubular, man~ Ribby Slipper Socks

These are hilariously fun to make! I’m working up the slipper foot,  on to the side, Isee the slit opening?) all the while thinking, “…is this RIGHT??”.

I did a search for Ravelry projects with this pattern and sure enough, many if the WIP’s look very similar-it’s not until you put the slipper sock on the foot, that it’s shape looks like  more than a sausage roll.

New Yarn On Order – New Favorite Gift Ideas?

I just placed my first KnitPicks sock yarn order, YIPPY SKIPPY!

I sat on the order, changed it several times, adding, subtracting, drove myself nuts for over a week, and after reviewing our budget, dove in and submitted the order.
I got 2 colors of Stroll Tweed: Lumberjack and Inca Gold,  Stroll Muli: Fruit Punch.  I’m going to try the Wheat Stalkings pattern (free), as found in Ravelry.

I got 3 colors of  Cadena: Blackberry, Tree Frog, and Coal, for Ribby Slippers by Cathy Carron.  I also ordered 2 sets of Clover Bamboo dpns, in the larger sizes for my slippers.  *New Favorite Gift idea (?)

KDTV Eunny Jang Knits

I have been fascinated by the knitting techniques of  Interweave KDTV’s Eunny Jang, and wanted to learn more-she made it look so effortless!

I watched several videos and was mesmerized as I watched her fingers fly. Then something clicked like a light switch turned on.  She is incredibly fast, but oddly, that didn’t bother me like some of the videos I had seen. So, I picked up a pair of knitting needles, a ball of scrap yarn, and sat down to try and attempt her technique.

The first hurdle I had to overcome was the most obvious: I’m a Lefty. But as I picked up my yarn, and mimicked her method of wrapping and knitting, the most incredible thing happened. It felt RIGHT! For the first time since I have picked my knitting back up after 30+ years, the stitches fell into place without a hitch.

I kept going, until I had a length of knitting, and was surprised to find that I had not dropped a single stitch, not once. The whole technique flowed together and the stitches were easily executed, like never before. Now when I read about the benefits of knitting on the tips, this is exactly what that refers to. Also, I find that I am only knitting from the wrists, not using my whole arm to “throw the yarn”, and causing less fatigue, much easier.

I highly recommend that anyone starting out watch her videos on InterweaveVideos. The following video is a demo of Jogless stripes and can be viewed by clicking this YouTube linke: http://www.youtube.com/user/InterweaveVideos#play/uploads/8/GshD9_qlUfE

It may not be the right technique for everyone; we all have our own individual style. But for me, this works!

I’m heading upstairs to work on my second pair of socks, and already I can see how much faster this pair will go! Pics and updates to follow 🙂

My First Socks- FINISHED!

I finished my first EVER pair of socks, WHOOHOO!

My First Socks

My First Socks

They were a nice, simple project for my first attempt, and it looks as thought there is almost enough yarn leftover to make another pair!  OH and I love the feel, and they fit perfectly!

There’s always that little bit of let-down after completing a project, it’s like the moments after Thanksgiving dinner- when it’s all over and you are looking around like, “what just happened?”

Orders are done, Mr. is taking the weekend off again, so I’m off  for the evening too.  He’ll have to get cracking Monday morning to get these orders ready to go out, his bin is overflowing!

Going to go see about starting dinner and then dive into another project. 😀

Have a beautiful weekend!

Me~
